Buying a designer bag abroad: compare the full cost
The best shopping decision starts with the exact piece, not a country-wide promise of savings.
By Wandering Wishlist editorial · · How we research
Start with the reference
Match the product reference, size, material and hardware on the official country pages. Two bags with the same collection name may be different products. Save the links and the dates you checked them.
Compare totals in one currency
Write down the local price, the exchange rate and your card’s foreign transaction fee. Subtract only the refund you expect to receive after provider fees. Add the applicable cost of bringing the item home. Compare that total with the actual tax-inclusive cost at home.
Treat the trip separately
If you already have a trip planned, compare the extra cost of visiting the boutique. If you are traveling only to shop, include the whole additional trip cost. A lower sticker price alone does not establish a saving.
Confirm the details before paying
Ask the boutique about stock, the exact reference, returns and refund documentation. A country website is not a stock reservation. Check government guidance for your residency, itinerary and return destination.
Keep a decision record
Record the date, reference, official links, currency rate, refund quote and assumptions. A useful comparison should show what would make the result change. Wandering Wishlist is being built around this transparent decision record.
